This beautiful desk set is what we all made last night at the What To Give class. It was a popular class, and we all had a great time. Some crafters even made 2 or 3 sets to give as teacher appreciation or Mother's Day gifts.

To duplicate the pattern, you'll need a 3"x5" notebook and a pen that will insert comfortably into the notebook pen slot. I used TUL® retractable gel pens and got my store-brand notebooks at Office Max. If you can't find a notebook that is 3"x5", you can get one cut to size or adjust the measurements for the notebook cover.

Cut your card stock for your notebook cover to:

7-3/8" x 5-1/2"

Score as shown in the photo at 3-1/2", 4" and 4-3/8".

IMG_4282

Ink a large background stamp with coordinating ink. (I used Pool Party card stock/Classic ink and the En Francais stamp.)

IMG_4283

Fold your card stock within a piece of paper so that only the 3" wide section is exposed. This is the top section of your notebook cover.

IMG_4286

Lay this section against your background stamp. Then lay either the other half of the paper your card stock is wrapped around OR another sheet of paper on top of the entire stamp to protect your fingers from getting inked. And rub to ensure that the entire image is getting transferred to your card stock.

IMG_4288

See?! It only stamped on that one section. 🙂

IMG_4289

Now you need to make two cuts to create the pen slot. Insert your card stock into your paper trimmer and make two cuts across the two center narrow sections: one that is 1" from the top and another that is 2-1/2" from the top.

IMG_4290

IMG_4292

Those two cuts create the pen slot. Push this section outward, and the above and bottom sections inward.

IMG_4294

Flip your card stock over and attach Sticky Strip to just the two sections above and below the pen slot close to the middle crease line on the 1/2" wide section (NOT the 3/8" wide section). Attach this section to 3-1/2" wide base by just folding over.

IMG_4298

Now add your notebook. I just stuck mine in with Sticky Strip on the back.

IMG_4299

Now it's time to embellish. First add about 5" of fancy scalloped lace ribbon from the Artisan Embellishments Kit with Sticky Strip to the front right-hand side of your cover.

IMG_4300

Now decorate the top notebook embellishment layer…

Use a Basic Black strip of card stock for the top notebook embellishment layer. Mine measures 1-1/4" x 5-1/2".

IMG_4301

My matching bookmark (also made with Basic Black card stock) is 1-3/8" x 11" – scored at 5-1/4".

IMG_4303

After cutting and scoring your pieces, emboss both the shorter front-half section of the bookmark piece and the top notebook embellishment layer piece with the Lacy Brocade embossing folder.

IMG_4304

Then for the notebook's Designer Builder Brad punch a small circle of Pool Party designer paper with the small circle punch from Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack and for an added decoration on the front of the notebook an Old Olive branch with the Bird Builder punch.

IMG_4305

As you can see from the photograph below showing the many embellishments needed to complete it all, I used lots of pieces from the Artisan Embellishments Kit, some Designer Builder Brads, Pool Party Ruffled Ribbon, Rhinestones and Tea Time Trinkets.

Now fold the bookmark in half and trim "V" notches into the ends. Trim a "V" notch into the bottom end of the top notebook embellishment layer as well.

IMG_4307

Assemble completely one of the builder brads. (This one will go on the front of the notebook cover.)

IMG_4308

Insert a wire-stemed flower from the kit through one of the brad's lower holes, thread a trinket onto the wire,…

IMG_4309

…and twist the extra wire around itself to secure the trinket. Snip any extra wire off.

IMG_4310

Then attach this brad to the Basic Black strip of card stock, and attach to the notebook cover.

IMG_4320

Finish the notebook cover by embellishing with rhinestones, the punched-out branch and some ribbon from the kit. Glue dots will help to secure these embellishments.

IMG_4321

The bookmarks are a bit simpler: Secure a cluster of ribbon pieces with a mini silver brad through the front embossed layer of black card stock about 1/4" inch down from the center fold. Then attach a Designer Builder Brad through the front embossed layer towards the very top just above the ribbons but just below the center fold. Fold the back half of the bookmark card stock down and secure the two halves together with Sticky Strip hiding the prongs from the two brads. Use glue dots to attach a flower embellishment from the kit to the builder brad, then add a rhinestone to the ribbons for more bling.
